Generative AI & Machine Learning Engineer

About this role

Thomson Reuters Special Services seeks a Generative AI & Machine Learning Engineer to develop and deploy AI/ML applications, improve existing production applications, and build and monitor new models. The role supports customer-facing solutions involving data exploration and may address text mining, predictive systems, risk scoring and data quality.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the end-to-end model development lifecycle, using reproducible research and well-managed software delivery practices.
  • Work with software engineering and product teams to develop features and integrate models into production. Translate complex business problems into scoped projects and deliver iterative improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, communicate plans and results to technical and non-technical audiences, mentor teammates, and support enterprise AI adoption.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 3+ years of practical, relevant experience building AI/ML products and applications, including recent demonstrable use of generative AI technologies such as RAG patterns, ReAct and LangChain for document summarization, knowledge graphs, information extraction or analysis.
  • Python proficiency, solid software engineering skills, and hands-on experience designing, developing and implementing machine-learning models and algorithms.
  • Technical leadership experience with product ideation, ambiguous problems, iterative planning, coordination and stakeholder communication.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. national security clearance.

Preferred qualifications include 6+ years applying AI/ML to diverse or ambiguous problems; AI agent frameworks; NLP applications; LLM training and efficient fine-tuning; NLP/CV libraries; AWS or Azure deployment; agile delivery of enterprise minimum viable products; and development of reusable libraries and APIs.

The listed location is McLean, Virginia. Other eligible offices include New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Irvine and Washington, DC. The role is hybrid; office-based roles generally spend 2–3 days per week in the office, depending on the role. Base compensation for the listed eligible locations is $136,000–$253,000 USD, with possible eligibility for an annual bonus.
