About this role
NVIDIA seeks a Senior Scientist to advance synthetic data generation for frontier large language models. The role combines applied research and software engineering within the NVIDIA NeMo ecosystem, creating open-source tools and datasets for the pre- and post-training of models such as Nemotron. Listed locations include Santa Clara and New York, plus remote options in Colorado, California, and Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
- Build LLM-based synthetic data pipelines with automated quality evaluation, producing text, code, structured, and multimodal datasets that improve reasoning, coding, structured output, and multimodal understanding.
- Advance image, document, video, and audio synthetic data generation with model teams. Design and maintain open-source libraries and SDKs with clean APIs and documentation; use configuration-based architecture and professional Git/CI-CD practices.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, product, model teams, and external labs. Publish original research at leading machine learning and AI conferences and mentor interns and junior researchers.
Required qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A research background of 3+ years in synthetic data generation, generative modeling, multimodal machine learning, or related areas; comparable experience is also considered.
- Deep understanding of LLMs, the role of data in pre- and post-training, and inference frameworks such as vLLM or TGI. A track record of developing or maintaining widely used software libraries and publications at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, or ACL.
Preferred qualifications include open-source ML or data-tooling contributions; multimodal generation or understanding across vision-language, documents, video, or audio; scalable training-data pipelines, throughput, and distributed inference; and data generation for agentic, tool-use, or reinforcement-learning post-training.
Base salary is 168,000–264,500 USD for Level 3 or 192,000–304,750 USD for Level 4, depending on location, experience, and comparable employee pay. Equity and benefits are also offered. The posting says applications will be accepted at least until August 10, 2026.
