About this role

The AI Innovation Engineer is a hands-on builder and coach who develops production AI tools and workflows for 829 Studios, a digital marketing agency. Reporting to the President/COO, the role owns workflow architecture, the AI stack and a reusable skill library while working with leaders and subject matter experts to ensure solutions are adopted and deliver measurable value.

Responsibilities

  • Workflow and agentic engineering (60%): Architect AI agents and automation using company-specific data; run cross-disciplinary pilots; build APIs, validation frameworks, data pipelines and integrations with business systems and advertising platforms. Develop a playbook covering discovery through measurement, and improve workflows based on output checks, user adoption and results.
  • AI stack curation and governance (15%): Maintain a tool inventory, vendor strategy, integration map and shared-context architecture. Create reusable workflow patterns and MCP integrations, and advise on build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Enablement (25%): Train and troubleshoot with marketing teams; advise on service scopes, pricing implications, policies and marketing collateral; and contribute to AI policies and procedures that mitigate risk.

Success milestones: Within six months, establish a draft agentic-workflow playbook, deliver 3–5 workflows meeting adoption criteria, quantify results for 1–2 workflows and create a catalogue of workflows, skills and tools. Within 12 months, refine the playbook and evaluation framework, integrate multiple workflows into a custom frontend with engineering partners, and help grow the innovation function.

Required: 5+ years of professional experience, including at least 2 years of marketing or agency exposure; a record of shipping adopted production AI work; Python and at least one of TypeScript, SQL or another relevant scripting environment; and the engineering ability to evaluate tools, build agentic workflows and MCP integrations, and use Claude Code, Cursor or Codex routinely. The role also requires security and performance knowledge, systems thinking, independent problem-solving, communication with technical and nontechnical stakeholders, and influence without formal authority. Preferred: React/Node and custom frontend experience, media-platform knowledge, familiarity with BigQuery, dbt, DLT and GCP, and a public record of shipped AI work.

Work remotely from one of the listed eligible US states or at the Boston office. Benefits include paid time off, 12 holidays, Summer Fridays, a 401(k) match after one year, insurance, healthcare, commuter benefits and continuing education. Salary range: $110,000–$135,000 annually.
