About this role
Fieldpiece Instruments seeks its first dedicated AI engineering hire to build practical AI and automation solutions that improve efficiency, speed and accuracy across the business. The engineer will work with teams including Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR, Product Development, Supply Chain, Operations, Customer Experience and IT, taking solutions beyond proofs of concept into production.
Responsibilities
- Understand workflows and business problems, translate requirements into technical solutions, and design, deploy, support and improve production applications and automations.
- Build AI agents, copilots, workflow automations and decision-support tools using large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, enterprise knowledge systems, APIs and agentic workflows.
- Integrate solutions with ERP, CRM, PLM, customer support, analytics, knowledge management and productivity platforms. Reengineer processes to improve service, quality, cost, revenue enablement and productivity.
- Establish testing and evaluation methods for accuracy, reliability, security, scalability and effectiveness. Work with information systems, data owners, business leaders and security stakeholders on governance and controls; support user adoption and assess emerging technologies for value, cost and risk.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, AI or a related field; 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production applications; and 2+ years building solutions with modern AI technologies, including large language models.
- Experience translating ambiguous business needs into solutions; prompt design, retrieval architectures, AI application testing and model or system evaluation; and building agents, multi-agent systems, RAG solutions or complex agentic workflows.
- Experience integrating APIs, cloud services, enterprise applications and data sources; strong Python proficiency or proficiency in another modern AI application language; experience with data engineering, analytics, BI, MLOps/LLMOps, observability or cloud deployment; and modern source control, testing, deployment and monitoring practices. Strong communication with technical and nontechnical stakeholders is required.
Preferred experience includes Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or ERP integration, Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, Fabric or Dataverse; product, manufacturing, distribution or field-service environments; and Lean or business process improvement.
The full-time role is based in Orange, California, with an office move to Tustin planned for 2028. The hybrid schedule typically requires three onsite days weekly, with additional days as needed. Compensation includes a base salary and annual bonus opportunity; the salary range is undisclosed.
