Blackstone Credit & Insurance (BXCI) seeks an AI Engineer, Principal in New York to serve as the primary technical partner to its AI Operating team. The team assesses AI-driven disruption across portfolio companies and works with their leadership on strategies for long-term viability. The engineer supports engagements from initial technical assessment and strategy development through partner selection and hands-on execution.
Responsibilities
- Assess portfolio companies’ architecture, data assets, infrastructure and technical talent; translate findings into strategic insights, contribute to internal memos and build rapid prototypes to test proposed moves.
- Build and maintain internal research automation, assessment templates, tracking systems and reusable components that accelerate work across the portfolio.
- Lead technical diligence on implementation partners, monitor their delivery and join working sessions with portfolio-company teams and the AI Executive. Engagements may address business-model and revenue changes, competitive repositioning, partnerships, acquisitions or channels serving AI agents as customers.
Required qualifications
- At least 5 years building AI/ML systems in production, including experience shipping AI-enabled products or features to real users.
- Fluency in foundation models, agent frameworks, RAG architectures, vector databases and evaluation frameworks; strong Python engineering and experience building APIs and AI-powered applications.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and production deployment on AWS, GCP or Azure; ability to assess unfamiliar technical systems quickly and form defensible architectural views; strong written and verbal communication for senior audiences.
Preferred qualifications include Model Context Protocol (MCP) or agent-facing API design, familiarity with SaaS or enterprise software, consulting, investing or technical diligence experience, and exposure to private equity, credit or portfolio operations. Prior financial-services experience is not required.
The expected annual base salary is $215,000–$250,000, with actual pay dependent on factors including experience, skills, qualifications and location.
