About this role
NYU Langone Health seeks an Applied AI Engineer for NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s predictive analytics team in New York, NY. Working as an ML engineer, the role supports generative AI and machine learning initiatives across the health system, including corporate services, science and research, clinical operations, and pathology. The position is full-time/regular, with a listed day schedule of 9am–5pm.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement AI/ML applications using the team’s technology stack and software development best practices. Work with data scientists to build or fine-tune models and apply relevant techniques from published research.
- Develop scalable, robust pipelines for large-scale data processing. Participate throughout the AI software development lifecycle, from functional analysis and prototyping through evaluation, testing, deployment, refactoring, and technical support.
- Apply internal security and data protection standards to AI applications and help maintain AI system risk and security standards. Prepare architecture, IT security, and AI documentation for technical reviews.
- Collaborate with business units, IT partners, and other stakeholders to understand workflows, gather requirements, identify AI opportunities, manage development tickets, refine the backlog, and review code. Share developments in AI and cloud technology and coach less experienced colleagues.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, and at least 1–3 years of hands-on AI solution development experience.
- Strong Python or other AI programming skills; substantial knowledge of AI, machine learning, and deep learning; and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience building large-scale or compute-intensive applications on clusters for data engineering, model training, and evaluation, using technologies such as HPC, Spark, or Kubernetes. Understanding of data structures, data modeling, software architecture, and software development methodologies; strong problem-solving, teamwork, and written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
A master’s degree in a related quantitative discipline; 3–5 years of hands-on AI solution development experience; and basic understanding of Azure, AWS, or GCP, cloud-native development tools, and their AI/ML toolchains.
The listed salary range is $84,577.92–$126,000.00 annually; actual pay depends on factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. Benefits described include financial security programs, time off, employee resource groups, and wellness resources.
