About this role
Amperos seeks an AI Research Engineer to improve the quality of its healthcare billing AI agents. Its denial-management and revenue-recovery platform handles claims work including payor calls, portal follow-ups, appeals and medical records. The role combines research, prototyping and production AI engineering, with a particular focus on agents that interact naturally with insurance representatives and collect accurate, detailed information.
Responsibilities
- Improve models, LLM orchestration, prompts, evaluation frameworks and AI infrastructure; prototype new products and turn prototypes into high-quality AI products.
- Own AI quality and the vision for end-to-end orchestration across modules, while enabling agent and workflow product engineers.
- Tackle difficult research problems, including interactions with payors resistant to AI and whether agents' work appears human to insurance representatives and healthcare billers. Apply machine learning, data science and LLM techniques, primarily using Python.
Qualifications
- Deep experience implementing and building AI agents; very strong Python skills; and experience with complex distributed systems involving many asynchronous operations.
- Interest in current LLM research and emerging capabilities, such as o1, OpenAI voice mode and Claude Computer-Use, for practical healthcare billing applications. Ability to balance rapid experimentation with systematic evaluation and interest in advancing conversational AI.
