Sr Staff GenAI Engineer

GE Vernova Advanced Research seeks a Sr Staff GenAI Engineer to develop and optimize prompts for large language models. The team aims to automate prompting and create a reusable framework for use cases across its businesses, supporting software solutions for internal and external needs.

Responsibilities

• Work with domain experts to translate business needs into effective LLM prompts; develop, test and refine prompts for accuracy and relevance.
• Collaborate with software developers to integrate LLM solutions into new or existing applications.
• Help build a scalable prompt-engineering framework that supports reuse and knowledge sharing across business units.
• Gather and analyze user feedback, advise on LLM tools and platforms, and document processes, best practices and use-case outcomes.

Required qualifications and eligibility:

• At least 5 years of relevant experience and a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, AI Engineering or a related field.
• Willingness to work out of an office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, or Niskayuna, New York. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Cambridge-based hires must complete a three-month hybrid onboarding residency at the GE Vernova Advanced Research Center in Niskayuna; travel, housing and a living stipend are provided.

Preferred qualifications

• A Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field; at least 3 years of prompt-engineering experience and familiarity with tools such as OpenAI GPT models and Hugging Face; and at least 3 years of experience with Python or another AI/ML programming language.
• Experience with PyTorch, Pandas, NumPy, NLP or machine-learning projects, and Git. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, communication and teamwork skills, adaptability, and an understanding of traditional industry operations are preferred.

Compensation and benefits: The stated U.S. pay range is $130,200–$217,100, with geographic salary differentials in certain areas and eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus. Relocation assistance is provided.
