Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts seeks a hands-on AI engineering leader to guide one or more teams developing its agentic AI framework. The role is responsible for the technical direction, delivery and quality of scalable, robust AI solutions. The posting is titled “Sr. AI Engineer” and describes the position as a Lead AI Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Mentor AI engineers and uphold architectural practices, coding standards and engineering quality.
- Lead the technical design and implementation of complex AI agent components, Generative AI integrations and supporting infrastructure.
- Work with Product Owners to refine requirements, estimate effort and deliver AI features on time and to a high standard.
- Establish code review practices, address complex technical escalations, and evaluate tools, libraries and frameworks.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technology or a related field.
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch and scikit-learn; and 1+ years developing agentic solutions, with knowledge of cloud services (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) and MLOps tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience designing and implementing complex AI agent components, including agents using Retrieval Augmented Generation architectures and fine-tuning techniques; managing production AI model performance, scalability and reliability; conducting code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions; and making technology decisions. Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders is required.
Preferred qualifications
Linux/Unix scripting, experience across multiple cloud platforms, and Solution Architect Associate certification, preferably in GCP or AWS.
The full-time role lists Boston and Hingham, Massachusetts, and is eligible for the Flex Persona for candidates local to the Boston office; the company describes flex as two on-site days per week. Scheduled hours are 37.5 per week. The posted salary range is $151,200.00-$184,800.00; the role is also eligible for variable pay.
