About this role
GE Vernova Advanced Research seeks a Principal Engineer - AI Engineering to create and optimize prompts for large language models and help build a scalable prompt-engineering framework. The team aims to automate prompting and enable reuse and knowledge sharing across business use cases, supporting internal and external software solutions in the energy industry.
Responsibilities
- Work with domain experts to turn business needs into effective LLM prompts; develop, test and refine prompts for accurate, relevant outputs.
- Collaborate with software developers to integrate LLM solutions into new or existing applications. Help develop a scalable prompting framework across business units.
- Analyze user feedback to improve prompts, track LLM advances, inform tool and platform selection, and document processes, best practices and use-case outcomes.
Required qualifications and eligibility:
- 10+ years of relevant experience and a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, AI Engineering or a related field.
- Willingness to work from an office in Niskayuna, NY or Cambridge, MA. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. For Cambridge-based employees, a three-month hybrid onboarding residency at the GE Vernova Advanced Research Center in Niskayuna is required; travel, housing and a living stipend are provided.
Ideal candidate characteristics:
- A relevant PhD; 3+ years of prompt-engineering experience and familiarity with tools such as OpenAI’s GPT models and Hugging Face; and 5+ years with Python or other AI/ML programming languages.
- Experience with PyTorch, Pandas or NumPy; NLP or machine-learning projects; Git; and traditional industry operations. Strong problem-solving, communication and collaborative skills are valued.
The U.S. pay range is $131,700.00–$219,300.00, with geographic differentials of 110%, 120% or 130% in certain areas. The role is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and relocation assistance.
