Principal AI Software Engineer

As Principal AI Software Engineer, lead the technical vision and architecture of enterprise AI applications across multiple GE Vernova initiatives. Build secure, highly available, cost-efficient solutions integrating LLMs, agent workflows, NLP, computer vision, and predictive analytics.

Responsibilities

• Set AI architecture and technical direction across products; lead initiatives with product, data science, and engineering teams and mentor technical teams.
• Design RAG and agent workflows, optimize LLM integrations, and build observable, multi-tenant, high-availability systems.
• Establish standards for AI cost management, monitoring, security, Agile practices, testing, and documentation.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, plus 10+ years of programming experience using modern front-end frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular and multiple backend languages; Python is preferred, with Java, Node.js, or Go also listed.
• Proven experience shipping production applications incorporating LLMs or AI services at scale. Experience with vector databases such as Milvus, Pinecone, Weaviate, or pgvector and production embedding-model optimization.
• Expertise with multiple LLM providers and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or custom frameworks; extensive technical leadership and mentorship experience; expert-level cloud-platform experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure and advanced containerization using EKS.

Preferred qualifications

• 13+ years across the software development lifecycle, including architecture, technical leadership, and large-scale optimization. Advanced knowledge of enterprise RAG, semantic search, and conversation memory; experience with multimodal AI, fine-tuning, custom-model deployment, AI observability, cost and performance optimization, cross-organizational collaboration, and technology roadmaps.

Location and compensation:

• Must be willing to work from an office in Niskayuna, NY, or Cambridge, MA. Cambridge-based hires must complete a three-month hybrid onboarding residency in Niskayuna; travel, housing, and a living stipend are provided. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Relocation assistance is available.
• U.S. pay range: $145,400–$242,500, with geographic differentials of 110%, 120%, or 130% in certain areas and eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.
