About this role
The Lead AI Forward Engineer designs and guides AI-powered solutions that reduce operational work for technology teams across Thomson Reuters’ CIO organization. Acting as a forward-deployed architect and engineer, the role owns solution design from concept through production and establishes reusable approaches for secure, reliable enterprise AI delivery.
Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for AI automation and intelligent agents; work with engineering teams, service owners and stakeholders to turn needs into requirements, architectures and delivery plans. Design workflows, APIs, integrations and data flows, and guide implementations from prototype to production.
- Build pipelines for inference- and workflow-level telemetry, connect them to Thomson Reuters’ data backbone, and develop dashboards covering AI performance, reliability, safety, usage and cost. Establish SLIs and SLOs, integrate monitoring and evaluation into CI/CD, and support workload scaling and operational readiness.
- Evaluate LLM orchestration, agentic frameworks, cloud AI services and observability tools for capability, cost, risk and enterprise fit. Develop guardrails and policy enforcement, and partner with product, data science, inference engineering and other teams on offline and online evaluations, benchmarks, canaries and A/B experiments. Maintain standards for governance, privacy, security and auditability; communicate trade-offs and mentor engineers.
Required qualifications
- 6+ years of progressive experience in solution architecture, technical strategy, senior engineering, platform engineering or related technical roles. Experience prototyping software and delivering production solutions in ambiguous environments.
- Strong architecture and Python skills; knowledge of APIs, distributed systems, microservices, CI/CD and cloud architecture in AWS, Azure or GCP. Experience with production AI systems and their monitoring or evaluation, plus working knowledge of LLM limitations, prompt design, agent workflows, RAG and vector search. Technical leadership and stakeholder communication are required.
Preferred qualifications include LangChain or LlamaIndex; AI observability, guardrails and safety controls; ServiceNow or comparable ITSM tools; and enterprise security, privacy and governance experience.
