About this role
Distyl AI seeks an AI Engineer, Enterprise Lead to own the technical success of complex enterprise AI deployments. The lead may manage one large customer engagement or oversee several smaller accounts, keeping production systems and teams aligned while ensuring deployments deliver durable business value.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction across use cases, workstreams and teams, including architecture, system behavior, evaluation strategy, integrations and operational practices.
- Develop AI Engineer Leads, senior engineers and emerging technical leaders; improve technical judgment, code quality, customer communication and production ownership.
- Partner with customer executives, enterprise architects and business stakeholders on delivery decisions, tradeoffs and risks.
- Stay close to live systems through design reviews, debugging, evaluation guidance, incident reviews and production-quality improvements. Model effective use of AI tools for design, implementation, analysis and operations.
- Work with company leadership on staffing, organizational design, leadership development and customer expansion from pilot to enterprise-scale deployment.
Requirements
At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including leading technical teams through ambiguous, high-stakes production delivery. Candidates must have led execution across multiple teams, workstreams, accounts or senior engineers; coached technical leaders; and taken ownership of complex enterprise deployments. They need sound judgment in architecture, debugging, testing, observability, performance, maintainability, security and code quality, plus the ability to communicate with executives, IT leaders, data teams and operational specialists. Daily use of AI tools is expected. Prior people management experience is strongly preferred, but demonstrated organizational leadership across multi-team engineering efforts can substitute. Travel is typically 20–40%.
Location and compensation: The role is based in San Francisco or New York, with a hybrid schedule requiring 3+ office days per week (Tuesday–Thursday).
