01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • Turn clinical observations into product decisions

The role is embedded with a clinical partner hospital and works with interventional cardiologists, radiologists and hospital stakeholders to identify needs, define AI-enabled requirements and set engineering priorities.

  • Evaluate AI in real clinical workflows

The posting calls for deploying and evaluating AI capabilities, collecting structured feedback on usability, performance and workflow fit, and validating outputs, edge cases and failure modes.

  • Support clinical evidence and regulated development

Responsibilities include clinical evaluations, real-world evidence generation, AI performance validation and software validation. The role also calls for experience developing regulated products under FDA Design Controls in SaMD/SaNMD environments.

  • Move prototypes toward usable hospital deployments

The engineer supports prototype deployments and hospital IT integration, while working with Product Management and R&D to prioritize improvements.

  • Represent clinicians across teams

The role builds physician partnerships for co-creation and adoption and carries customer needs to AI, Clinical Science, Engineering, UX, Quality and Regulatory Affairs teams.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Testing AI without losing sight of clinical workflow

Likely preparation challenge, not a reported Philips problem: an AI output can perform well in isolation yet fit poorly into a time-sensitive procedure. Prepare an example of how to assess both output validity and workflow fit, capture structured clinician feedback, and escalate consequential failure modes.

  • Balancing fast learning with validation discipline

Likely preparation challenge: rapid prototype feedback may point toward changes while clinical evidence, software validation and FDA Design Controls require a disciplined record. Prepare to explain how you would distinguish an observation from a validated finding and trace a proposed improvement through requirements and evaluation.

  • Reconciling competing priorities

Likely preparation challenge: physicians, hospital stakeholders and the named product, engineering, UX, Quality and Regulatory teams may value different outcomes. Prepare a concrete prioritization approach that weighs clinical value, workflow impact, technical feasibility and validation needs without assuming one group owns the decision.

  • Integrating prototypes in a hospital setting

Likely preparation challenge: a promising capability may still face hospital IT and operational constraints. Prepare an example of coordinating deployment and software validation with technical and clinical stakeholders, including how you would document integration issues and decide what needs resolution before broader use.

Your preparation checklist

  • Map the stated requirements to evidence

Prepare a one-page matrix covering the posted 7+ years of healthcare software development, master’s or PhD, AI-enabled products, clinician collaboration, clinical-domain knowledge, and FDA Design Controls experience. Use specific examples where available; leave gaps unclaimed.

  • Rehearse a clinical product walkthrough
