About this role
Verily Health seeks an AI Applied Scientist to combine real-world healthcare data curation with development of AI agents. The role turns fragmented Electronic Health Records (EHR), claims, and unstructured medical text into trustworthy longitudinal datasets that ground autonomous care agents and clinical decision-support tools.
Responsibilities
- Design scalable clinical data-curation pipelines and develop and deploy generative AI workflows and multi-agent conversational architectures for personalized interactions and automated symptom triage.
- Extend LLM and NLP tools to extract clinical variables and derived features from medical text, improving data completeness and accuracy.
- Build automated evaluation pipelines and LLM-as-a-judge rubrics to assess agent safety, accuracy, factuality, and compliance across model updates and support self-optimization.
- Address challenges in clinical and remote-setting data while maintaining safe data boundaries, privacy preservation, and technical validation before production releases. Present methods and results to technical and non-technical audiences.
Required qualifications
A master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, such as data science, computer science, biomedical informatics, statistics, or applied mathematics, or equivalent practical experience; at least 3 years of industry experience applying advanced machine learning, NLP, and generative AI techniques to clinical or healthcare datasets; direct experience curating real-world data such as EHRs or medical claims; understanding of unstructured medical text; and proficiency in Python and scientific computing or deep-learning libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Preferred qualifications
A relevant PhD; familiarity with LangGraph, NVIDIA NeMo, Parabricks, medical terminologies including SNOMED-CT, LOINC, RxNorm, and ICD-10, and healthcare data models including FHIR and OMOP; experience establishing benchmarks and data-abstraction guidelines with clinical experts; and peer-reviewed healthcare AI/ML publications or submitted patents.
The full-time role lists San Bruno, Boston, and Mountain View locations and is eligible for Verily-sponsored immigration support. The US base salary range is $219,000–$246,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits; individual pay depends on location and qualifications.
