About this role
Yahara Software is hiring a technical lead to deliver applied AI/ML projects for scientific organizations, particularly in life sciences and healthcare. The role focuses on LLM- and agent-based capabilities built into products such as bench-science tools and scientific instrument software.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction, quality, pace, and delivery of client projects. Design AI-powered features, build retrieval-augmented generation systems over client data, and orchestrate agents and tools for multi-step workflows.
- Fine-tune or adapt models when off-the-shelf results are insufficient. Build evaluation suites and guardrails addressing accuracy, safety, privacy, and cost. Apply sound architecture, rigorous testing, and engineering discipline.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews and problem-solving. Explain results, tradeoffs, and risks to clients; advise where AI is appropriate; contribute solution outlines and rough estimates to pre-sales discussions; and record key decisions in architecture decision records.
Required background:
- 6+ years in software engineering, including recent hands-on AI work; experience shipping LLM-based features or applications to real users and leading a team's technical work, formally or informally.
- Understanding of model training, tuning, and evaluation; sound judgment about AI capabilities; an interest in developing other engineers; and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred background includes work with life sciences organizations, lab systems, or regulated scientific software; AI in HIPAA-, FDA-, or GxP-regulated environments; traditional machine learning or data science; consulting or client-facing projects; and Azure or AWS cloud AI certifications. Example technologies—not requirements—include Python, TypeScript, Anthropic, OpenAI, open-weight models, LangChain, LlamaIndex, MCP, pgvector, Pinecone, Azure AI Search, Azure AI Foundry, and Amazon Bedrock.
