RLI Insurance Company seeks an IT Director - AI to lead enterprise AI strategy, governance, the operating model and adoption. The director will partner with business and technology leaders to deliver responsible AI solutions with measurable value, lead technical professionals directly or through influence, and communicate with senior stakeholders. The position lists Chicago, IL; Tempe, AZ; Peoria, AZ; and Peoria, IL as locations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the enterprise AI vision, roadmap, governance framework and operating model with business and technology partners. Build relationships across teams, identify AI opportunities, and prioritize use cases by value, feasibility, scalability, risk and strategic alignment.
- Establish goals and reporting for adoption, solution performance, business outcomes, risk and return on investment. Explain AI capabilities, limitations and risks to technical and nontechnical audiences to support decisions on proposed initiatives.
- Work with architecture, data, cybersecurity, legal and compliance teams to align solutions with security, responsible-use and enterprise standards. Evaluate emerging technologies, vendors and platforms while encouraging reuse and scalability.
- Guide a portfolio of AI initiatives, resolve barriers and dependencies, and support staffing, talent development, performance management and succession planning. Promote continued learning about AI applications, governance and evolving risks.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, Business or a related field, and 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in technology, AI, enterprise architecture, data, digital transformation or a related discipline; an equivalent level of education and experience is also accepted.
- Requires experience developing or leading an enterprise AI strategy, adoption program or portfolio of AI-enabled solutions; experience with generative AI, large language models, cloud-based AI platforms, machine learning, intelligent automation or related technologies; and experience leading technical professionals. Strong strategic planning, prioritization, communication, stakeholder-management and technical-to-business translation skills are expected.
- Preferred qualifications include formal people management; insurance, financial services or other regulated-industry experience; and knowledge of AI governance, privacy, cybersecurity, model risk, human oversight, software development and enterprise technology delivery.
Compensation and benefits: Base pay is $139,797.00–$203,755.00. Listed rewards include bonus plans, employee stock ownership, 401(k) contributions, health coverage, paid leave, training and tuition reimbursement. RLI also lists flexible and hybrid work arrangements among its benefits.
