About this role
State Street Investment Management seeks a Managing Director to lead global insight generation and AI adoption. As a partner to the Global Head of Data, Analytics, and AI Services, this leader will shape and execute the investment management division’s AI strategy and oversee AI services supporting its COO organization. The role leads teams working on data science R&D, AI/ML/deep learning models, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and enterprise AI platforms, aligned with GTS standards and the target AI ecosystem blueprint.
Responsibilities
- Implement data science capabilities, AI frameworks, tools, and vendor products across business lines. Lead and mentor AI teams in the US, China, and India.
- Define modular, scalable, reusable AI architecture and enterprise standards; direct implementation and governance to reduce siloed development.
- Evaluate and standardize emerging AI capabilities. Promote engineering quality through code reviews, testing, knowledge sharing, and systems designed for reliable global workloads.
- Maintain risk, security, regulatory, and data-protection standards. Manage AI platform and service vendors, including integration, service quality, and contractual outcomes. Oversee AI/ML models from ideation through production deployment.
Required qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Financial Mathematics, or a related field; 15+ years in asset management, including knowledge of public and private markets and distribution/sales; and 10+ years of hands-on AI experience delivering solutions and platforms.
- Experience leading global organizations across product, data, AI, and engineering; knowledge of AI vendors and open-source frameworks; strong execution, leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to translate business needs into scalable, user-centric solutions and fluency in English.
Preferred
PhD; data science development and management experience at a large financial institution; CFA or equivalent credential.
The posted salary range for the primary location is $170,000–$282,500 annually; a different work location may have a different range. Listed benefits include a 401(k) with company match, insurance, paid time off, an employee assistance program, and eligibility for annual performance-based awards.
