About this role
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer develops and supports AI solutions for WilmerHale’s legal practices and business departments. The role works with Information Services colleagues and stakeholders to define projects, gather requirements, plan tasks, develop and test solutions, and support their use. The position is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and is designated hybrid. The hiring salary range is $135,000–$169,000.
Responsibilities
- Identify AI use cases with cross-functional teams and align requirements with business goals. Research advances in generative AI, machine learning and deep learning, and recommend opportunities to apply them.
- Optimize existing generative AI models for performance, scalability and efficiency; assess commercial off-the-shelf AI solutions; and help end users write effective prompts for large language model solutions.
- Provide technical and functional support and enhancements, establish AI development and maintenance practices, and produce specifications, user guides, presentations and end-user training. Mentor team members and communicate technical approaches to non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch; experience building recommendation models; and knowledge of data structures, algorithms and software engineering principles.
- Familiarity with Azure or AWS; demonstrated C# and .NET development ability, including related frameworks such as .NET Core, ASP.NET Core or React; and experience using a software development methodology such as Scrum and DevOps tools or practices.
- 1–2 years delivering solutions with at least one of TensorFlow, PyTorch, BERT or ChatGPT 3, and 2–3 years in application and service integration or development with significant specialization in a relevant technology area. Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills are required.
Preferred or advantageous: Strong SQL skills; a background in machine learning, deep learning, NLP and software engineering; experience with large language models such as GPT-3/4, BERT, Dolly, LLaMA or PaLM2; LLM fine-tuning; and NLP tools such as SpaCy or NLTK. Four to five years of C# web development with .NET Framework or .NET Core, and experience with Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Graph or messaging tools such as Rebus or NServiceBus, are pluses. A bachelor’s degree is preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
