About this role
Cyvl seeks an AI Engineer to turn its LiDAR and imagery data from hundreds of US cities into production AI for infrastructure assessment and customer tools. The role spans computer vision and 3D perception models as well as LLM-powered products.
Responsibilities
- Build models that detect, classify and assess pavement, signs, sidewalks and trees from LiDAR and imagery.
- Develop LLM-powered agentic workflows, an MCP server and AI copilots that make Cyvl data useful within customer tools.
- Own models from data and training through evaluation, deployment and production monitoring. Design evaluation sets and metrics tied to customer needs, and bring relevant new techniques into products and workflows.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years building and shipping ML or AI systems in production; strong Python skills and experience with a modern deep learning framework, preferably PyTorch.
- Hands-on experience with computer vision, 3D perception or LLM applications such as RAG, tool use, agents and evaluations.
- Software engineering fundamentals, including testing, code review and cloud deployment; ability to prototype ambiguous problems quickly and develop production-grade solutions.
Preferred qualifications
Point-cloud or multimodal LiDAR-and-imagery work; MCP, foundation model APIs or agent frameworks; geospatial or remote-sensing experience; model serving, GPU infrastructure or experiment tracking; and an advanced degree in computer science, ML, robotics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Location and compensation: The posting lists Somerville, Massachusetts, and San Francisco, California. It describes Somerville work as on-site about 90% of the time, while the application asks about working in the office five days per week. San Francisco-based employees work remotely and travel to Somerville for onboarding, kick-offs and milestones. Listed compensation is $125K–$225K annually, plus equity.
