01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • Unified AI Product Strategy

The role requires balancing two distinct mandates: a user-facing conversational AI assistant for trading and support, and internal agentic systems for compliance and risk. You must define a cohesive product roadmap that leverages shared infrastructure for orchestration, safety, and governance across both domains.

  • Regulatory Compliance and Traceability

Because the AI systems will handle sensitive internal functions like fraud and risk, you must prioritize building systems that are inherently auditable and regulatorily defensible. This requires deep integration of safety architecture and explainability into the core AI platform design.

  • Scalable AI Infrastructure Development

You are responsible for designing the shared AI platform that powers all agentic and conversational initiatives. This involves establishing standards for RAG, tool use, and evaluation that can support the high-scale, high-trust requirements of a global crypto exchange.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Balancing Innovation with Financial Risk

Implementing agentic AI in high-stakes environments like crypto trading and compliance creates a tension between rapid feature deployment and the need for absolute reliability. Prepare to discuss how you manage 'hallucination' risks and ensure system outputs meet the strict accuracy standards required by financial regulators.

  • Managing Multi-Stakeholder Technical Requirements

You must align technical teams building complex LLM architectures with non-technical stakeholders in compliance and operations. Prepare to demonstrate how you translate abstract AI capabilities into concrete, business-critical workflows that satisfy both engineering rigor and operational needs.

Implementing RAG for Financial Accuracy

What to coverDescribe how you would architect a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline to ensure high accuracy for crypto-specific queries. Focus on how you handle data freshness, source verification, and minimizing hallucinations in a high-stakes financial environment.

AI Evaluation Frameworks

What to coverWhat metrics and evaluation frameworks do you prioritize for conversational AI in a regulated industry? Address how you balance automated testing with human-in-the-loop evaluation to ensure product quality and safety.

Ensuring Auditability in Agentic Systems

What to coverIn the context of internal operations like risk and fraud, how do you design agentic systems to be fully traceable and regulatorily defensible? Discuss the logging, explainability, and governance layers required for audit compliance.

Safety Architecture and Governance

What to coverHow do you design a safety architecture that prevents unauthorized actions or data leakage in an AI-driven platform? Suggest how you would implement guardrails that are configurable across different global markets.

Tool Use and API Integration

What to coverDiscuss the challenges of enabling LLMs to interact with external tools and APIs for trading or account management. How do you ensure secure, reliable tool execution while maintaining a seamless conversational flow?

Scaling AI Infrastructure

What to coverAs a Director, how do you approach building shared AI infrastructure that supports both user-facing assistants and internal operational agents? Focus on the trade-offs between centralized platform services and domain-specific customization.

Managing LLM Latency and Performance

What to coverWhat strategies do you employ to manage the latency and performance trade-offs inherent in complex agentic workflows? Address how you optimize for real-time user interactions without compromising the depth of the AI's reasoning.

Behavioural practice

Leading AI Strategy in Regulated Markets

What to coverDescribe a situation where you had to balance aggressive AI product innovation with strict regulatory requirements. How did you align stakeholders and ensure the product remained compliant while still delivering value?

Managing Complex Product Roadmaps

What to coverProvide an example of how you have managed a product roadmap that spanned multiple, highly technical AI initiatives simultaneously. How did you prioritize resources and communicate progress to executive leadership?

02

Sharpen your knowledge

Topics to prepare

  • Agentic AI Governance and Auditability

The role requires building internal systems for compliance and risk that are regulatorily defensible. Exercise: Draft a framework for an 'AI Audit Trail' that logs agent decision-making processes, tool selection, and data sources in a way that satisfies financial regulatory requirements for explainability.

  • Multi-Agent System Architecture

The position demands deep familiarity with multi-agent systems for both user-facing and operational tasks. Exercise: Map out a high-level architecture for a crypto-trading assistant where specialized agents handle distinct tasks like market data analysis, risk assessment, and trade execution, ensuring clear hand-offs and safety guardrails.

Skills to revise

  • LLM Evaluation Strategy

You must own the evaluation layer for AI products. Exercise: Define a set of quantitative and qualitative KPIs to evaluate a conversational AI assistant's performance in a high-stakes financial environment, focusing on accuracy, latency, and user trust metrics.

  • RAG and Tool Use Integration

The role involves building infrastructure for RAG and tool-use. Exercise: Design a product requirement document (PRD) section detailing how an AI agent should securely access and utilize real-time crypto market data and user account tools while maintaining strict safety and privacy boundaries.

04

Your preparation checklist

  • Prepare a case study on agentic AI in regulated environments

Develop a structured walkthrough of a past project where you deployed conversational or agentic AI within a highly regulated industry.
