01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • Strategic Market Expansion and Sales Alignment

The role requires partnering with regional sales leadership to penetrate new enterprise markets. You must demonstrate how you have previously architected pre-sales blueprints that directly contributed to capturing market share and increasing Average Contract Value (ACV) in complex enterprise environments.

  • Scaling Technical Win Frameworks

You are expected to establish rigorous standards for Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and custom demos. The priority is to move beyond ad-hoc pre-sales activities to a scalable framework that improves technical win rates and ensures seamless post-sale adoption for large-scale accounts.

  • AI Evangelism and Executive Presence

As a technical evangelist, you must translate complex AI, LLM, and machine learning concepts into clear business value for C-suite stakeholders. You should be prepared to discuss your experience in delivering keynotes or leading executive briefings that influenced high-stakes decision-making.

  • Leadership of Multi-Tiered Organizations

You must manage a multi-tiered team, specifically mentoring front-line managers. The focus is on cultivating a high-performance culture that balances technical excellence with consultative value selling across a diverse APAC region.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Bridging Technical Depth with Business Outcomes

A common challenge in this role is the tension between maintaining deep technical credibility in AI/CCaaS and the need to focus on commercial velocity. Prepare by articulating how you have successfully coached teams to avoid 'feature dumping' and instead focus on solving specific enterprise business problems.

  • Influencing Product Roadmaps from the Field

Acting as a feedback loop between the field and Product/Engineering teams can be difficult due to competing priorities. Be ready to discuss how you have historically managed these cross-functional relationships to ensure field requirements are prioritized without disrupting the core product strategy.

  • Managing Regional Complexity in APAC

The APAC market is highly diverse regarding data privacy, security compliance, and enterprise architecture standards. Prepare to discuss how you have navigated varying regulatory landscapes while maintaining a unified, high-standard pre-sales execution model.

Topics to prepare

  • Enterprise CX Ecosystem Architecture

Review the integration points between CRM, CCaaS, and WEM platforms. Exercise: Map out a hypothetical enterprise architecture where a legacy CRM integrates with a modern AI-powered CX platform via REST APIs and webhooks to improve customer service efficiency. This is relevant to the role's requirement to bridge technical capabilities with enterprise business value.

  • Generative AI and LLM Applications in CX

Study how LLMs are applied to automate customer support, sentiment analysis, and agent assistance. Exercise: Prepare a brief executive-level summary explaining the business ROI of implementing Generative AI in a contact center, focusing on time-to-value and operational cost reduction. This aligns with the need to serve as a technical evangelist for Zendesk's AI capabilities.

  • Multi-Tiered Pre-Sales Leadership

Research frameworks for managing managers in a high-growth SaaS environment. Exercise: Draft a strategy for scaling a pre-sales team, including how you would mentor front-line managers to improve technical win rates and PoC standards. This addresses the requirement for leading a multi-tiered organization.

Skills to revise

  • Executive Presence and Public Speaking

Practice translating complex technical concepts into high-level business outcomes. Exercise: Record a 5-minute pitch aimed at a C-suite executive that articulates the value of an AI-driven CX platform without relying on jargon. This is essential for the role's requirement to lead executive briefings and industry keynotes.

  • Strategic Pre-Sales Framework Design

Develop standardized processes for Proof of Concept (PoC) and pilot programs. Exercise: Create a template for a 'Technical Win' scorecard that measures success metrics for large-scale enterprise accounts. This directly supports the responsibility to establish rigorous pre-sales frameworks to improve win rates.

  • Prepare a leadership case study on scaling teams

Draft a narrative detailing your experience managing multi-tiered pre-sales organizations. Highlight specific methods used to mentor front-line managers, attract top-tier talent, and foster a culture of consultative value selling in an enterprise SaaS environment.

  • Synthesize your technical expertise in CX ecosystems

Prepare a summary of your experience with CRM, CCaaS, and WEM integrations. Be ready to discuss how you have navigated complex enterprise architectures, AWS cloud infrastructure, and data privacy compliance in previous roles.

Compile evidence of your public speaking experience, such as conference keynotes or C-suite workshops. Prepare to explain how you translate dense technical concepts into business outcomes for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Formulate strategic questions for the interview

Prepare insightful questions regarding Zendesk's current AI roadmap, the specific challenges of the APAC enterprise market, and how the Sales Engineering team collaborates with Product and Engineering to influence platform development.
