Understand the role
What matters most
Curriculum Integration of AI Tools
The role requires embedding AI literacy into the curriculum, specifically teaching students prompt engineering, AI-augmented coding, and data analysis workflows. You must demonstrate how to move beyond theoretical AI concepts to practical, hands-on fluency that prepares students for modern AI-assisted work environments.
Industry-Relevant AI Pedagogy
You are expected to maintain strong linkages with industry through consultancy projects and attachments. This ensures your teaching remains current with evolving AI developments, such as generative AI and intelligent automation, and that you can translate these industry trends into effective learning experiences.
Administrative Efficiency via AI
Beyond teaching, you must manage part-time course administration, including student intake, stakeholder correspondence, and data analysis. A key priority is leveraging AI productivity tools to automate or streamline these administrative tasks to maintain efficiency while balancing teaching duties.
Likely challenges to think through
Balancing Academic and Administrative Demands
The role requires multitasking between teaching, industry consultancy, and administrative course management. To prepare, be ready to discuss your experience with project management and how you prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining high standards for both student engagement and operational tasks.
Adapting to Rapid AI Evolution
AI technology changes faster than traditional curriculum cycles. The challenge is keeping course material relevant and accurate. Prepare by demonstrating your methodology for continuous self-learning and how you critically evaluate new AI tools before introducing them into a classroom setting.
Teaching Critical Evaluation of AI
A specific pedagogical challenge is teaching students not just how to use AI, but how to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy and bias. Prepare by articulating your approach to teaching 'AI skepticism' and quality control alongside technical proficiency.
