Sharpen your knowledge

Topics to prepare

  • Finance Transformation Frameworks

Review methodologies for identifying manual process bottlenecks and control gaps within financial reporting and month-end cycles. Exercise: Map a standard month-end reconciliation process, identifying at least three manual touchpoints suitable for automation or AI intervention. This is relevant to the role's core responsibility of driving operational efficiency in Finance.

  • Responsible AI and Data Governance

Study the principles of responsible AI adoption, specifically focusing on data confidentiality and compliance within a banking environment. Exercise: Draft a set of 'Responsible Use' guidelines for employees using generative AI tools, ensuring data privacy and risk mitigation are addressed. This is critical for the role's mandate to act as a digital champion while maintaining control discipline.

Skills to revise

  • Business Analysis and Requirements Documentation

Practice translating complex Finance pain points into structured user stories and acceptance criteria. Exercise: Take a hypothetical manual reporting task and write a formal business requirement document (BRD) that includes current-state vs. future-state process flows. This directly supports the requirement to document requirements for technology-enabled change.

  • Prompt Engineering for Microsoft 365 Copilot

Develop proficiency in creating effective prompts to assist Finance users with data summarization and report generation. Exercise: Create a library of reusable prompts for common Finance tasks like expense analysis or regulatory reporting summaries. This is essential for the user enablement and adoption responsibilities of the role.

  • Workshop Facilitation

Refine techniques for leading cross-functional working sessions to gather requirements and drive consensus. Exercise: Design an agenda for a 60-minute 'use-case clinic' aimed at identifying AI opportunities with Finance stakeholders. This is vital for the role's collaborative nature and need to facilitate process improvement sessions.

04

Your preparation checklist

  • Prepare a portfolio of Finance transformation projects

Compile 2-3 examples of past projects where you identified manual Finance processes and implemented digital or automation solutions. Be ready to explain the problem, the technology used (e.g., Power Platform, AI tools), the methodology for gathering requirements, and the measurable efficiency gains achieved.

  • Develop a structured AI use-case assessment framework

Create a one-page template or framework you would use to evaluate a potential AI or automation initiative. Include criteria such as feasibility, expected benefits, data security considerations, and implementation risks, demonstrating your ability to think critically about responsible AI adoption in a regulated banking environment.

  • Refine your process mapping and documentation samples

Prepare anonymized samples of process flows or user stories you have authored. Ensure these demonstrate your ability to document current-state versus future-state processes, identify control gaps, and translate complex Finance requirements into actionable technical specifications.

  • Formulate questions regarding the Finance change management roadmap

Prepare thoughtful questions for the interviewer about the current maturity of AI adoption within the Finance team, the biggest hurdles in user enablement for tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot, and how the team balances innovation with strict data confidentiality and regulatory compliance.

  • Practice explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Prepare a brief, clear explanation of how you would facilitate a workshop to train Finance users on new AI tools. Focus on how you would address resistance to change, simplify complex technical jargon, and create practical, reusable prompts or guides for end-users.
