01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • Establishing AI Trust and Assurance Frameworks

The role requires developing and maturing enterprise-wide governance for AI systems, including Generative AI and autonomous agents. You must translate complex technical risks like prompt injection and model manipulation into practical, risk-based assurance methodologies that align with regulatory standards such as MAS TRM and NIST.

  • Strategic BISO Partnership and Business Alignment

As a Business Information Security Officer, you must act as a trusted advisor to business units. The priority is to engage early in the technology lifecycle to embed 'secure-by-design' principles, ensuring that digital transformation and investment initiatives are resilient without stifling business agility.

  • Independent Oversight and Executive Reporting

You are responsible for providing objective, independent challenge to senior management regarding cyber and AI risks. This involves maintaining enterprise risk registers, conducting thematic assessments, and communicating control maturity and residual risk in clear business terms to governance committees.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Balancing Rapid Innovation with Rigorous Security

A core tension exists between enabling fast-paced adoption of emerging technologies and maintaining strict security guardrails. Prepare to demonstrate how you have historically implemented 'proportionate' controls that protect the firm's reputation while supporting the business's need for speed.

  • Managing Evolving AI Threat Vectors

The landscape of adversarial AI, supply-chain compromise, and data leakage is rapidly shifting. Prepare by articulating a methodology for continuous monitoring and adaptive governance that can keep pace with frontier AI developments rather than relying on static, point-in-time compliance checks.

  • Influencing Across Organizational Boundaries

As a leader in a global investment firm, you must influence stakeholders who may prioritize different outcomes. Prepare to discuss your approach to fostering a culture of shared ownership for cyber resilience, particularly when navigating complex, multidisciplinary environments where security is often viewed as a secondary concern.

Practice your answers

Technical practice

AI Security Frameworks and Model Assurance

What to coverExplain how you would adapt traditional cybersecurity frameworks like NIST or ISO to specifically address the unique risks of Generative AI and Large Language Models. Focus on how you would establish a model assurance process that covers the entire lifecycle from training data integrity to deployment monitoring.

Mitigating Adversarial AI Threats

What to coverDescribe your approach to identifying and mitigating risks such as prompt injection, model inversion, and AI supply-chain compromise. Discuss how you would balance the need for robust security controls with the requirement for business agility in AI adoption.

Governance of Autonomous Agents

What to coverAutonomous agents introduce new dimensions of risk regarding excessive autonomy and unintended actions. Outline a governance strategy for managing these agents, specifically addressing how to define guardrails and ensure accountability for their decisions.

Integrating MAS TRM with Emerging Tech

What to coverDiscuss the challenges of applying the MAS Technology Risk Management (TRM) guidelines to a rapidly evolving AI and cloud-based environment. Explain how you would ensure compliance while maintaining a forward-looking posture on emerging technology risks.

Secure-by-Design in Digital Transformation

What to coverHow do you embed 'secure-by-design' and 'resilient-by-design' principles into a fast-paced digital transformation project? Provide examples of how you would influence technical teams to prioritize these principles without stifling innovation.

Enterprise Risk Management and Reporting

What to coverWhat metrics and key risk indicators (KRIs) would you implement to provide senior management with a clear view of the firm's AI and cyber risk posture? Explain how you would translate these technical metrics into business-relevant insights for governance committees.

Third-Party and Supply-Chain Risk in AI

What to coverAI systems often rely on third-party models, APIs, and datasets. Describe your methodology for assessing and monitoring the security of the AI supply chain and how you would manage the risks associated with external dependencies.

Data Protection in the Age of AI

What to coverAs AI models require large datasets, data leakage and privacy risks increase. Detail your strategy for ensuring data protection and compliance with privacy regulations when training or fine-tuning models within an enterprise environment.

Behavioural practice

Acting as a Trusted BISO Advisor

What to coverDescribe a situation where you had to influence a business unit leader to change their technology roadmap due to significant cyber or AI risks. How did you frame the conversation to ensure they understood the risk while still feeling supported in their business objectives?

Managing Conflict in Independent Oversight

What to coverProvide an example of when you had to provide an 'effective challenge' to a senior stakeholder regarding a proposed technology initiative. How did you maintain your independence and objectivity while fostering a collaborative relationship?
