About this role
A*STAR’s ARTC seeks a Development Engineer for its Autonomous Systems & Robotics group to develop intelligent and reconfigurable robotic systems for manufacturing and logistics companies in Singapore. The engineer will contribute to larger R&D teams and lead small projects developing practical AI-driven robotics and automation solutions.
Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders to define problems, requirements and expectations; assess emerging technologies and tools and recommend approaches.
- Contribute to generative AI-driven robotics projects; validate concepts through virtual models, simulations and physical prototypes; design physical and software modules and system components.
- Test and validate team-developed solutions, support technical proposals for industry challenges, and contribute to both competitive grant-funded research and direct industrial projects.
- Help senior staff work with system integrators and vendors to deploy AI-based automation in operational settings such as factory shopfloors and warehouses. Maintain technical documentation and deliver presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering; 0–2 years of experience developing AI/ML-based robotics and automation systems or software solutions.
- Software programming experience, such as Python, C or C++; experience with or willingness to learn 3D simulation tools such as Visual Components, Isaac Sim or Gazebo.
- Hands-on experience with industrial robot arms and cobots, exposure to robotic picking and placement or packing applications, ability to work hands-on with limited supervision, and strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong pluses include practical robot manipulation programming with ABB RAPID, URScript or KRL, and applying generative AI or reinforcement learning in simulations and real-world implementations. Mechanical design using CAD, systems-level modelling and simulation such as Simulink, ROS or ROS 2, and UI/UX development are also pluses.
