01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • Full-Cycle Revenue Ownership

The role requires managing the entire sales process from initial prospecting to final activation. You must demonstrate a history of independently driving pipeline and closing complex enterprise deals, as you will be responsible for both revenue growth and the successful deployment of Devin within customer organizations.

  • Technical Credibility and Product Feedback Loop

You must bridge the gap between technical product capabilities and customer needs. This requires either a background in software engineering or sales engineering, or a proven ability to rapidly master complex technical concepts to provide actionable, high-quality feedback to the engineering and product teams.

  • Strategic Stakeholder Navigation

Success depends on your ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including C-suite executives, technical leaders, procurement, and legal teams. You must be adept at identifying the right internal champions and use cases within large, layered technology organizations.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Ambiguity in a High-Growth Environment

As an early-stage AI lab, processes may be undefined and the product landscape shifts rapidly. Prepare by highlighting instances where you have built structure from scratch or adapted your sales strategy in response to sudden market or product changes.

  • Balancing Sales Velocity with Technical Depth

There is a trade-off between moving fast to meet revenue targets and ensuring the technical feasibility of AI agent deployments. Prepare to discuss how you qualify opportunities to avoid 'technical debt' in sales and ensure that the use cases you pursue are genuinely solvable by current AI capabilities.

Technical Qualification and Use Case Discovery

What to coverHow do you evaluate whether a prospective customer's technical environment is a good fit for an AI agent? Discuss the criteria you use to identify high-impact use cases and how you validate these with engineering teams.

Closing Strategies for Emerging AI Products

What to coverWhen selling a novel, category-defining product, how do you handle customer skepticism or concerns regarding security and reliability? Focus on building trust through technical credibility and demonstrating clear, measurable value during the pilot or activation phase.

Bridging Sales and Engineering Feedback Loops

What to coverDescribe your methodology for capturing and synthesizing customer feedback to influence product development. Explain how you ensure that critical technical pain points are prioritized by the engineering team without over-promising on custom features.

Technical Proficiency in Sales

What to coverGiven your background in engineering or sales engineering, how do you leverage your technical knowledge to conduct effective product demonstrations? Discuss how you handle deep-dive technical questions from customer engineering leads during the sales process.

Pipeline Generation in Competitive Markets

02

Sharpen your knowledge

Topics to prepare

  • Enterprise Sales Cycles for Technical Products

Review the stages of selling complex, high-value technical solutions to large organizations. Exercise: Map out a hypothetical sales cycle for an AI agent, identifying key stakeholders (C-suite, procurement, legal) and how to address their specific technical and business concerns. This is relevant because the role requires owning the entire cycle from prospecting to activation.

  • AI Agent Use Case Discovery

Study how to identify and qualify technical pain points within large software engineering organizations. Exercise: Research common bottlenecks in modern software development lifecycles (SDLC) and draft a framework for how an AI software engineer like Devin could specifically resolve these. This is essential for the requirement to discover new use cases and provide product feedback.

Skills to revise

  • Technical Communication for Sales

Practice translating complex technical concepts into business value for non-technical stakeholders while maintaining credibility with technical leaders. Exercise: Prepare a 5-minute pitch for an AI software agent that explains its technical architecture at a high level while focusing on ROI and productivity gains for an engineering team. This aligns with the requirement to engage with both C-suite and technical leaders.

  • Technical Problem Analysis

Develop the ability to quickly grasp and articulate complex technical requirements. Exercise: Select a recent technical whitepaper or documentation on AI agents or software automation and write a one-page summary explaining the core problem it solves and its limitations. This demonstrates the 'exceptional ability to learn' required for candidates without a direct engineering background.

04

Your preparation checklist

  • Map your technical sales track record

Prepare a summary of your experience selling complex, technical software to enterprise clients. Highlight specific deals where you navigated multi-stakeholder environments, including C-suite, legal, and procurement, to demonstrate your ability to manage the full sales cycle.

  • Articulate your technical fluency

Develop a narrative that showcases your technical background as a former engineer or sales engineer. If you lack direct engineering experience, prepare concrete examples of how you have rapidly mastered complex technical domains to solve customer problems.

  • Draft a Devin-specific go-to-market strategy

Create a hypothetical plan for introducing an AI software engineer like Devin to a large technology organization in the APAC region. Identify potential use cases, key technical pain points you would target, and how you would qualify the right teams for deployment.

  • Prepare a product feedback loop framework

Outline a process for how you would gather, synthesize, and communicate customer feedback to engineering and product teams. Be ready to discuss how you would prioritize these insights to accelerate product development and revenue growth.

  • Formulate strategic questions for the interview

Prepare thoughtful questions regarding the current challenges of scaling Devin in the APAC market, the ideal profile of early enterprise adopters, and how the sales team collaborates with the engineering team to refine the product roadmap.
