Director, Software Engineering & AI

Medtronic seeks a Director, Software Engineering & AI to lead software engineering excellence and accelerate AI adoption across its R&D Software & Systems organization. Based in Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, India, the role defines the Software & AI roadmap and builds an organization delivering scalable, secure, high-quality, compliant software for global operating units. Responsibilities

• Partner with MEIC R&D leadership to align the Software Excellence & AI strategy with enterprise and operating-unit priorities. Translate the enterprise AI vision into execution frameworks and scalable AI-enabled delivery models; lead automation, digital transformation, and engineering productivity initiatives.
• Establish software development lifecycle, quality, metrics, and governance frameworks. Advance Agile and SAFe practices, DevSecOps, CI/CD, test automation, reliability, engineering dashboards, and continuous improvement.
• Work with global and local partners to embed AI in products, processes, and operations. Drive AI/ML development and deployment, compliant use of scalable AI tools and allowed LLMs, and adoption of data science and advanced analytics. Oversee data engineering, modeling, deployment, monitoring, measurement, traceability, and reporting.
• Partner with MEIC engineering leaders on AI-enabled digital engineering, software productivity, and automated digital traceability. Build and scale the Software & AI organization, hire senior technical leaders, coach staff, and lead communities of practice and upskilling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, AI/Data Science, or a related field; 20+ years in software engineering and product development and 10+ years in leadership roles managing large, global engineering teams.
• Proven software product development, AI/ML strategy and deployment, digital transformation, and engineering excellence experience. Strong software architecture, cloud, distributed systems, AI/ML, data platform, and large-scale computing expertise, plus cross-functional program leadership and stakeholder management. The role calls for technical judgment, strategic influence, and leadership in a matrixed global environment.
• Preferred: a master’s degree and experience in a regulated industry such as MedTech.
