About this role
Carelon Global Solutions seeks a Senior Data Scientist to develop data-driven solutions for US healthcare. The role combines analysis of complex healthcare datasets with machine learning, NLP and large language model development. The posting lists Bangalore and Gurgaon/Gurugram as locations.
Responsibilities
- Interpret structured, semi-structured and textual data to produce actionable insights. Work with AI/ML engineers, data scientists, product teams and customer stakeholders to acquire and process data, debug issues and improve models.
- Build and maintain enterprise-grade data pipelines and data preprocessing workflows. Design statistical and machine learning models for regression, classification and clustering, and create NLP solutions for text classification, sentiment analysis and topic modeling.
- Develop and fine-tune LLMs; optimize prompts and embeddings; evaluate outputs with ROUGE, BLEU and human-aligned methods; and investigate quantization, pruning and knowledge distillation.
- Apply hypothesis testing, confidence intervals and experimental design; plan and analyze A/B tests. Visualize results, prepare analytical reports and document model architectures, experiments and validation. Work independently and adapt solutions to changing product requirements.
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, computational linguistics, engineering or a related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
- At least 5 years of overall experience in data science, analytics or a related field. The posting also specifies 3+ years working with large-scale structured and unstructured data using ML, NLP and computer vision; 3+ years with core technologies including mandatory Python, SQL, Hugging Face, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch and Apache Spark; 3+ years developing NLP models, particularly transformer architectures; and 2+ years implementing large-scale keyword and embedding-based retrieval.
- Experience with GCP or AWS, LLM development and optimization, prompt development, statistical analysis, stakeholder communication and independent technical decision-making. Healthcare industry experience and knowledge of domain-specific data and regulatory considerations are listed; proven US healthcare analytics expertise is preferred. PyTorch, Spark and cloud experience are also identified as good to have. The posting states preferences for women candidates, differently-abled candidates and women returning to the workforce.
