About this role
Amazon Shipping seeks an Applied Scientist II to guide machine learning solutions for large-scale forecasting and optimization across its global transportation network. The role focuses on improving delivery reliability and customer experience while reducing costs.
Responsibilities
- Set the scientific vision and roadmap for ML systems supporting transportation planning and execution. Lead and mentor applied scientists, including their technical and career development.
- Guide model and system design using approaches such as tree-based models, LSTMs, transformers, large language models, and reinforcement learning. Oversee experimentation and model performance, ensuring solutions are robust, interpretable, scalable, and ready for production.
- Partner with Product, Operations, and Engineering leaders to support proactive decisions and corrective actions. Own business metrics related to customer experience, cost optimization, and network reliability.
- Contribute to the ML community through publications, conference submissions, and internal knowledge sharing.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
- A PhD, or a master's degree and 4+ years of experience in computer science, computer engineering, machine learning, or a related field.
- Experience with patents or publications in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals; programming in Java, C++, Python, or a related language; and at least one of algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing.
Preferred qualifications
Experience using Unix/Linux and experience in professional software development. Listed job locations are Hyderabad and Gurugram, India.
