About this role
The Senior Analytics Engineer will serve as the strategic architect of the HR data ecosystem at News Corp. This role involves designing the foundational framework that enables advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI capabilities across the global organization. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between raw data engineering and cutting-edge AI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Architecture: Design, scale, and optimize the core HR data warehouse architecture to support enterprise-wide BI, workforce analytics, AI, and machine learning workloads.
- AI & ML Enablement: Partner with Data Science and AI teams to prepare clean training datasets, feature-ready models, and governed pipelines for predictive models, LLM applications, and chatbot-based analytics.
- Advanced Data Modeling: Implement robust, reusable, and privacy-aware data models using engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and version control.
- Governance & Security: Establish frameworks for data quality, lineage, and security compliance, specifically protecting PII and sensitive employee data through encryption, masking, and row/column-level security.
- Dashboarding: Build and support trusted dashboards and self-service analytics products for HR stakeholders.
- Mentorship: Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers, promoting high standards for code quality and system design.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or BI Engineering, preferably in People Analytics or sensitive data environments.
- Expert-level proficiency with modern cloud data warehouses (e.g., Google BigQuery, Snowflake) and advanced SQL.
- Hands-on experience with dbt, git workflows, and orchestration tools like Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
- Strong understanding of data security principles (encryption, IAM, secrets management).
- Experience with PII protection techniques.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD and containerization (Docker).
- Exposure to AI/ML, LLM, or chatbot data use cases, with Python proficiency highly preferred.
- Experience with BI tools like Tableau.
- Deep understanding of HR functions and enterprise systems like Workday or ServiceNow.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with semantic layer tools such as dbt Semantic Layer, Cube, or MetricFlow.
