01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • End-to-End MLOps Pipeline Management

The core responsibility is designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines that bridge the gap between data science experimentation and production deployment. You must ensure that ML models are not just built, but operationalized, versioned, and reproducible using tools like MLflow or Kubeflow.

  • Cloud Infrastructure and IaC Automation

You are expected to provision and sustain scalable cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible. This requires balancing infrastructure resilience with the specific resource demands of data processing and model training workloads.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Integration

Success in this role depends on working effectively with data scientists and product teams to integrate models into production systems. You must be able to translate complex technical requirements into stable, performant, and secure data workflows.

  • System Monitoring and Reliability

You must implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using tools like Prometheus and Grafana to ensure model performance and system dependability. This involves proactive troubleshooting of the entire data and ML pipeline lifecycle.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Balancing Model Reproducibility with Scalability

Maintaining strict data lineage and experiment reproducibility while scaling infrastructure for enterprise-level data volumes is a significant technical trade-off. Prepare by discussing how you manage versioning overhead without sacrificing pipeline performance.

  • Navigating Diverse Tech Stacks in Enterprise Environments

EPAM works with global brands, which may involve heterogeneous environments. You may face challenges integrating disparate tools (e.g., Spark, Databricks, and various cloud services). Prepare by highlighting your experience in standardizing workflows across different technology ecosystems.

  • Security and Compliance in ML Workflows

Implementing stringent security protocols for data integrity while maintaining the agility required for rapid ML model deployment is inherently difficult. Prepare by explaining your approach to embedding security-by-design into CI/CD pipelines without creating bottlenecks for data scientists.
