About this role
The Lead AI Forward Engineer designs and delivers AI-powered solutions that reduce operational toil for Thomson Reuters’ CIO technology teams. Acting as a forward-deployed solution architect and hands-on engineer, the role owns designs from opportunity identification and prototype through production deployment, with an emphasis on scalable, maintainable systems.
Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for AI automation and intelligent agents; design workflows, integrations, data flows and operational architectures. Guide delivery against reliability, security and compliance expectations, and establish reusable patterns and reference designs.
- Evaluate LLM orchestration, agentic frameworks and cloud AI services for capability, cost, risk and suitability. Design for changing models and providers, and determine when simpler automation is more appropriate.
- Build pipelines for inference- and workflow-level telemetry, dashboards and reports covering performance, reliability, safety and cost. Set and track SLOs and SLIs; integrate monitoring and evaluation into CI/CD; and develop guardrails for limits, anomalies and abuse or failure patterns. Maintain governance, privacy and auditability standards.
- Partner with engineering, product, data science, AI, cloud and SRE teams on requirements, evaluation frameworks and onboarding use cases to the observability platform. Support infrastructure monitoring and scaling during major releases and global events. Explain design trade-offs to stakeholders and mentor engineers.
Required capabilities include end-to-end solution architecture, integration and API design; working knowledge of AI/ML and LLM applications, prompt design, agent workflows and production challenges such as RAG, hallucinations and provider variability; hands-on prototyping; cloud architecture in AWS, Azure or GCP; distributed systems, microservices and CI/CD; and clear technical communication. Python proficiency is strongly preferred.
Preferred background includes 10+ years of progressive experience in solution architecture, technical strategy or senior engineering; taking prototypes into production; familiarity with LangChain, LlamaIndex, RAG and vector search; DevOps, platform engineering or SRE principles; and exposure to ServiceNow/ITSM, security architecture, compliance and technical leadership.
The position is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with a hybrid model: office-based roles generally spend 2–3 days per week in the office.
