01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • End-to-End Algorithmic Architecture

The role requires defining the full stack for ADAS functions like ACC, LKA, and AEB. You must demonstrate the ability to decompose complex system-level requirements into modular components covering perception, fusion, prediction, planning, and control, ensuring they are scalable and safety-compliant.

  • Embedded Optimization and Real-Time Performance

Algorithms must be optimized for specific hardware constraints, including ECUs and GPUs. You need to show expertise in balancing high-accuracy AI/ML models with the strict latency, memory, and power requirements of embedded automotive systems.

  • Functional Safety and SOTIF Compliance

You are expected to integrate ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (SOTIF) standards directly into the algorithmic design process. This requires a rigorous approach to safety-critical software development where validation via HIL/SIL is as important as the initial design.

  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship

With 15+ years of experience required, you must act as a technical authority. You will be responsible for guiding junior engineers in best practices for modeling, validation, and technical design, while collaborating across cross-functional teams.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Balancing Innovation with Automotive Standards

The challenge lies in implementing cutting-edge AI/ML perception pipelines while adhering to the rigid, long-cycle requirements of automotive safety standards. Prepare by discussing how you have successfully deployed experimental AI models into production-grade, safety-certified environments.

  • Multi-Sensor Fusion Complexity

Designing frameworks that synchronize disparate data from cameras, radar, ultrasonic, IMU, and GNSS is difficult due to varying sensor characteristics and time-sync issues. Be ready to explain your approach to handling sensor uncertainty and state estimation in real-world, dynamic driving scenarios.

  • Hardware-Software Co-Design

Defining interfaces between software algorithms and specific hardware (ECUs/GPUs) requires deep knowledge of both domains. You may face challenges in optimizing for specific SoC architectures; prepare by highlighting your experience with hardware-aware algorithm design and embedded deployment.
