01

Understand the role

What matters most

  • End-to-End Algorithmic Architecture

You must define and develop the full architecture for ADAS functions like ACC, LKA, and AEB. This requires decomposing complex system-level requirements into modular components covering perception, fusion, prediction, planning, and control, ensuring each part integrates seamlessly into the final vehicle system.

  • Embedded Performance Optimization

Algorithms must be optimized for real-time execution on constrained hardware such as ECUs and GPUs. You are expected to balance high-accuracy AI/ML models with strict latency, memory, and power constraints, ensuring the software remains performant within an embedded environment.

  • Safety and Compliance Integration

You must actively contribute to ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) and ISO 21448 (SOTIF) compliance. This involves ensuring that all algorithmic designs are inherently safe, verifiable, and meet the rigorous documentation and validation standards required for automotive safety-critical systems.

  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship

As a senior role, you are responsible for mentoring algorithm engineers. You must guide the team in technical design, modeling, and validation best practices, while collaborating across cross-functional teams including system architects and data scientists.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Balancing AI Complexity with Embedded Constraints

Modern perception pipelines using Transformers or CNNs are computationally expensive. The challenge is deploying these high-performance models onto embedded SoCs (NVIDIA, Qualcomm, TI) without exceeding latency or memory budgets. Prepare by discussing specific techniques for model quantization, pruning, or hardware-specific acceleration.

  • Bridging Simulation and Real-World Validation

Moving from SIL/HIL simulation to on-vehicle validation often reveals discrepancies in sensor data or environmental conditions. You will need to demonstrate how you manage data replay systems and sensor calibration to ensure that simulation results reliably predict real-world performance.

  • Managing Multi-Sensor Fusion Complexity

Integrating diverse inputs from camera, radar, ultrasonic, IMU, and GNSS requires robust state estimation and synchronization. The difficulty lies in handling sensor noise, time-alignment, and edge cases in object tracking. Prepare by highlighting your experience with Kalman/Particle filters and ROS/ROS2 frameworks.
