Key Responsibilities: Architect the integration of vLLM, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and JAX/XLA into the Next Generation Accelerator stack. Define framework, compiler, and runtime APIs and contracts. Own LLM execution behavior including batching, KV cache, and streaming inference. Design and implement end-to-end deployment workflows covering packaging, versioning, and reproducibility. Drive performance optimization across the model, framework, and runtime layers. Work cross-functionally with compiler, runtime, and low-level software teams. Support customer workloads, model onboarding, and debugging. Required Qualifications: 12+ years of professional experience (with at least 10+ years in AI/ML systems or software architecture). Strong experience with PyTorch, Transformers, and LLMs. Hands-on experience with LLM deployment and scalable inference engines. Impact: You will own customer-visible AI execution and deployment on the Next Generation Accelerator, closing the gap between models and system performance to enable enterprise-grade AI solutions.

Understand the role

What matters most

  • Framework and Compiler Integration

The primary technical mandate is to architect the integration of PyTorch, TensorFlow, and JAX/XLA into the Next Generation Accelerator stack. This requires defining robust APIs and contracts between the framework, compiler, and runtime layers to ensure seamless model execution.

  • LLM Execution Optimization

You must own the performance of LLM execution, specifically focusing on batching strategies, KV cache management, and streaming inference. Success is measured by your ability to close the performance gap between high-level models and the underlying hardware.

  • End-to-End Deployment Workflows

You are responsible for designing and implementing the full lifecycle of model deployment, including packaging, versioning, and ensuring reproducibility. This is critical for enabling enterprise-grade AI solutions on the platform.

  • Cross-Functional Technical Leadership

As a senior architect, you must bridge the gap between high-level AI frameworks and low-level software/compiler teams. This involves active collaboration to debug issues and support customer model onboarding.

Likely challenges to think through

  • Bridging High-Level Frameworks to Custom Hardware

A significant challenge is mapping standard AI frameworks like PyTorch or JAX to a proprietary accelerator stack. Prepare to discuss how you handle custom compiler backends and the trade-offs between framework flexibility and hardware-specific performance optimizations.

  • Balancing Performance and Scalability

Optimizing for batching and KV cache in a production environment often involves complex trade-offs between latency and throughput. Be prepared to explain your methodology for profiling bottlenecks across the entire stack, from the model layer down to the runtime.

  • Ensuring Reproducibility in Complex Stacks

Maintaining consistent deployment workflows across diverse model architectures and framework versions is difficult. Prepare to discuss your approach to versioning and packaging strategies that ensure reliable, reproducible inference in enterprise environments.

Technical practice

Architecting LLM Inference Stacks

What to coverDiscuss the trade-offs in integrating frameworks like vLLM, PyTorch, and JAX into a custom hardware accelerator stack. Focus on how you define the abstraction layers between the framework, compiler, and runtime to ensure portability and performance.

Optimizing KV Cache Management

What to coverExplain your approach to managing KV cache memory in high-throughput inference scenarios. Address strategies for memory fragmentation, dynamic batching, and how these impact latency and throughput on specialized hardware.

Compiler and Runtime API Design

What to coverHow do you design robust APIs and contracts between the framework and the compiler/runtime? Describe how you ensure these interfaces remain performant while supporting diverse model architectures and operator sets.

End-to-End Deployment Reproducibility

What to coverDescribe your methodology for designing deployment workflows that guarantee reproducibility across different environments. Include considerations for model versioning, containerization, and environment parity.

Performance Optimization Across Layers

What to coverWhen a model underperforms, how do you conduct a cross-layer analysis from the model definition down to the runtime execution? Provide examples of how you identify bottlenecks in the framework-to-hardware pipeline.

Streaming Inference Implementation

What to coverWhat are the primary challenges in implementing low-latency streaming inference for LLMs? Discuss how you handle token generation, buffer management, and synchronization between the runtime and the client.

Debugging Complex AI Systems

What to coverExplain your process for debugging issues that span across the model, framework, and low-level software. How do you isolate whether a failure is due to a compiler optimization, a runtime bug, or a model-specific implementation detail?

Scalable Batching Strategies

What to coverCompare different batching strategies for LLM inference, such as continuous batching versus static batching. Discuss the impact of these strategies on hardware utilization and per-request latency.

Behavioural practice

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership

What to coverDescribe a situation where you had to align compiler, runtime, and low-level software teams on a complex architectural decision. How did you manage competing priorities to reach a consensus?

Managing Customer Workload Onboarding

What to coverProvide an example of a time you supported a customer in onboarding a complex model to a new platform. How did you identify their specific performance requirements and address their technical roadblocks?

Driving Architectural Change

What to coverTell me about a time you identified a significant inefficiency in an existing AI software stack. What steps did you take to propose and implement a more scalable architecture?

Handling Technical Ambiguity

What to coverDescribe a project where the requirements for the AI deployment stack were evolving rapidly. How did you maintain architectural integrity while ensuring the team could still deliver on time?

Sharpen your knowledge

Topics to prepare

  • LLM Inference Optimization

Focus on the mechanics of high-performance inference, specifically continuous batching, PagedAttention for KV cache management, and streaming latency reduction. Exercise: Review the vLLM architecture documentation and compare its memory management strategies against traditional static batching approaches to prepare for architectural discussions.

  • Compiler and Runtime Integration

Understand the interface between high-level frameworks like PyTorch/JAX and low-level hardware acceleration via XLA. Exercise: Analyze how XLA compiles computational graphs into optimized kernels and define a theoretical API contract between a custom accelerator runtime and a standard framework to ensure model portability.

  • End-to-End Deployment Workflows

Study the lifecycle of model deployment including versioning, containerization, and reproducibility in production environments. Exercise: Design a CI/CD pipeline architecture that ensures model weights, environment dependencies, and runtime configurations are strictly versioned for consistent performance across different hardware iterations.

Skills to revise

  • vLLM and Scalable Inference Engines

Gain hands-on experience deploying models using vLLM or similar high-throughput engines. Exercise: Set up a local inference server using vLLM, benchmark throughput and latency under varying concurrent request loads, and profile the memory usage of the KV cache.

  • PyTorch and XLA Integration

Develop proficiency in bridging PyTorch models with XLA-based backends. Exercise: Take a standard Transformer model, convert it to run on an XLA-compatible device, and use profiling tools to identify bottlenecks in the operator execution path.

04

Your preparation checklist
