About this role

Amgen seeks an Associate AI Engineer, OI&A, for its Obesity Intelligence & Analytics technology operations and data enablement team in Thousand Oaks, California. The full-time role has a Flex Commuter / Hybrid work arrangement. It delivers data science, software engineering and generative AI solutions for commercial and non-commercial functions, combining hands-on engineering with technical coordination across the solution lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business stakeholders to define workflows, users, intended outcomes, acceptance criteria, data readiness, integration dependencies and production constraints. Convert complex problems into solution designs and delivery plans with estimates, milestones, risks, release approaches and support transitions.
  • Prototype, build or review critical components of AI-enabled applications, including retrieval-augmented generation, bounded agents, intelligent automation, APIs and integrations. Maintain architecture spanning applications, data and knowledge pipelines, models, retrieval, identity, access controls, observability and human review.
  • Coordinate engineering, data science, testing, platform, security, compliance and business contributors. Establish testing, AI evaluation and governance with explicit release thresholds. Prepare controlled releases using CI/CD, monitoring, logging, SLOs, rollback, recovery and runbooks; support stabilization and handoff to the operating owner. Communicate risks and results, measure adoption and value, and document reusable approaches.

Qualifications

  • Required: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field, OR a diploma with 2+ years of experience in one of those fields.
  • Preferred: Production Python and SQL; enterprise architecture and integration; applied ML, NLP, foundation-model integration, RAG and agent systems; cloud-native operations, DevSecOps and MLOps/LLMOps. The posting seeks advanced capability in at least one of applied AI/ML, GenAI/RAG/agents, full-stack integration engineering or AI platform/MLOps, plus breadth across production delivery. Experience with hybrid or graph retrieval, knowledge graphs, source verification, MCP-style integration, multi-agent workflows, policy enforcement and adversarial testing is preferred. Databricks, AWS, Spark, LLMs and agentic development are a plus; life sciences, healthcare, payor or pharmaceutical experience will be considered.

The posted U.S. annual salary range, excluding Puerto Rico, is USD 81,466.55–110,219.45. Eligibility-based total rewards may include health coverage, retirement savings, a discretionary bonus, stock-based incentives and time off.
