About this role
HP’s Enterprise AI & Machine Learning organization builds generative-AI tools and digital products intended to improve productivity for more than 50,000 employees and the effectiveness of hundreds of business processes. The Principal AI Data Scientist leads multiple projects using large language models, multimodal models and other generative-AI capabilities for cloud or edge deployment. This is a delivery-focused role, not a research position.
Responsibilities
- Lead organization-wide teams of data science professionals creating GenAI models and digital products; guide projects through development, review designs and models, check data compliance, and mentor less experienced staff.
- Work with senior business partners and development teams to identify practical opportunities, develop scalable solutions and deploy them at scale. Recommend simpler solutions when AI is unnecessary.
- Define monitoring metrics for real-world model performance, recommend improvements, and communicate insights and business value through visualizations and discussions with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Qualifications and skills:
- Recommended education and experience: an AI-related PhD with 5+ years of experience, or an AI-related master’s degree with 10+ years. Relevant experience must include generative AI and related machine learning, data analytics and statistical modeling.
- A strong data science and machine learning foundation and experience with LLMs, multimodal models, prompt engineering, vector databases, RAG and search engines are sought. Familiarity with Azure Machine Learning, Azure Prompt Flow, Python, LangChain, Streamlit and Docker is listed.
- The role calls for experience working in diverse, distributed teams, clear stakeholder communication, the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical audiences, and mastery of English. Experience on software development teams, particularly cloud-based business applications, is a strong plus; startup experience is a bonus. SQL, Python or similar programming-language certification is preferred.
The full-time position lists Spring, Texas, and All Cities, Virginia. The US base pay range is $147,050–$230,850 annually, with possible bonus or equity. Listed benefits include health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; an employee assistance program; a flexible spending account; 4–12 weeks of fully paid parental leave based on tenure; 11 paid holidays; and additional flexible paid vacation and sick leave.
