About this role
HP’s Enterprise AI & Machine Learning organization seeks an AI Data Scientist focused on delivering Generative AI tools and digital products for internal business use. The team builds solutions for cloud and edge deployment and supports AI adoption across HP. This is a delivery-focused position, not a research role. The posting lists Spring, Texas, and All Cities, Virginia, as locations; it does not specify a working arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Develop complex Generative AI models, including solutions involving large language and multimodal models, to generate insights and business value. Define success measures, monitor real-world performance, and recommend improvements.
- Work with business stakeholders to scope opportunities, identify patterns and predictions, and communicate findings through effective visualizations. Recommend pragmatic solutions, including non-AI approaches when appropriate.
- Partner with development teams and business units to make models scalable and implement them in delivered products. Represent data science throughout complex projects, review designs, models and data compliance, lead project teams, and mentor less experienced colleagues.
Qualifications and preferences:
- A strong foundation in data science and machine learning, with experience in large language models, multimodal models, prompt engineering, vector databases, Retrieval-Augmented Generation and search engines. Familiarity with Azure Machine Learning, Azure Prompt Flow, Python, LangChain, Streamlit and Docker is sought.
- HP recommends a PhD related to AI, or a master’s degree in computer science or a related field with 5+ years of experience in GenAI and related technologies, including machine learning, data analytics and statistical modeling.
- Experience on software development teams, particularly with cloud-based business applications, is a strong plus; start-up experience is a bonus. SQL, Python or similar programming-language certification is preferred. The role requires clear communication with technical and nontechnical stakeholders, collaboration across diverse distributed teams, and mastery of English.
Compensation and benefits: The US base-pay range is $130,700–$205,200 annually, with potential bonus and/or equity. HP lists health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, an employee assistance program, a flexible spending account, 11 paid holidays, 4–12 weeks of fully paid parental leave based on tenure, and additional flexible paid vacation and sick leave.
