About this role
HackerOne seeks a Software Engineer, Applied AI for its AI Platform team. The role develops AI-powered offensive-security capabilities, including the in-platform security agent Hai, to improve vulnerability discovery, security analysis, and customers’ detection and response to emerging threats.
Responsibilities
- Build and integrate LLM-powered workflows, RAG pipelines, and orchestration components for vulnerability detection and security automation. Develop Hai features for natural-language insights, reasoning workflows, and secure model interactions.
- Build and maintain APIs and services connecting AI models securely with internal systems and third-party platforms.
- Evaluate model performance, test hypotheses, analyze telemetry, and improve features based on measurable results. Break down AI and security problems into maintainable solutions and adapt to changing frameworks, product needs, and security considerations.
- Work with Product, Security Research, and Customer Success to turn user needs into technical tasks. Share relevant developments in AI and AI security with the team.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years as a software engineer, including hands-on experience building production systems.
- Experience integrating LLMs or generative AI models into applications, plus hands-on experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Hugging Face Transformers.
- Ability and willingness to attend the office once a week, typically Thursdays.
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with agentic frameworks such as ReAct, AutoGen, LangChain, or Semantic Kernel; RAG architectures, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or LLM evaluation; and cloud AI/ML services such as AWS Bedrock, GCP Vertex AI, or Azure ML.
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, or React for integrating AI features into production systems.
Location and compensation: The role is targeted to candidates within approximately 50 miles of Seattle, WA; Austin, TX; Boston, MA; or Washington, DC. It allows remote work but requires one office day per week. The posted compensation band is $166K–$203K, with equity.
