About this role
Gilead seeks an AI Data Science Lead to drive AI/ML innovation across Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing (PDM) and Technical Operations (Tech Ops) for Gilead and Kite. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, the position is hybrid-eligible and reports to the Director, Data & AI (PDM and Tech Ops). The lead will develop expertise in these operations and master data management, designing AI-enabled solutions to improve speed, quality and efficiency across the development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end AI/ML solutions, including prompt engineering strategies and experiments to optimize model performance. Partner with Product Owners, Solution Architects and Delivery Leads to deliver scalable, validated and compliant solutions.
- Discover PDM and Tech Ops processes, translate business logic into technical specifications, and advise technical teams on model design, feature engineering, solution architecture and master data management.
- Document current workflows across supply chain, manufacturing, technical development, quality and CMC; define future AI-enabled processes and identify opportunities for automation. Validate solutions against workflows and regulatory requirements, including GxP and controls.
- Contribute to data solutions and post-implementation troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Track the AI/ML portfolio through metrics and executive dashboards, including the finance AI/ML use cases specified in the posting. Mentor junior data scientists.
Qualifications
- Required: bachelor’s or higher degree in statistics, data science and/or computer science, plus 5+ years of relevant experience. Experience with prompt engineering, LLM testing or AI model experimentation; systems thinking, workflow visualization, problem solving, project prioritization, and strong written and oral communication. Knowledge of ERP and manufacturing systems and familiarity with GxP/GMP are also sought.
- Preferred: experience or education in process design and exposure to PDM and Tech Ops processes in a corporate environment.
Compensation and benefits: The stated salary range is $146,200.00–$189,200.00; actual compensation varies with experience, qualifications and location. The position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and medical, dental, vision and life insurance, subject to eligibility and plan terms.
