About this role
Afficiency seeks a DAC AI engineer based in the NYC Metro Area to design, build and deploy production-ready AI-powered applications for life insurance. The role combines full-stack development with generative AI, prompt engineering and agentic workflows to improve customer experience, underwriting, policy servicing, claims processing, agent productivity, knowledge management and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize prompts for LLM platforms, including OpenAI Codex, GPT, Claude and Gemini. Build copilots, virtual assistants, intelligent agents and RAG solutions using enterprise knowledge repositories and policy documents.
- Develop agent workflows using tools, plugins, function calling and orchestration frameworks. Create reusable prompt libraries and AI accelerators; test, evaluate and monitor AI outputs to improve accuracy, consistency and reliability.
- Build responsive React.js applications, Python Flask REST APIs and microservices; integrate AI services and enterprise data through APIs and service layers. Support real-time insurance workflows while applying authentication, security and scalability practices.
- Work with business stakeholders, architects, data engineers and digital product teams on solution architecture, technology selection, prototypes and delivery. Follow DevOps, CI/CD and Agile practices, and maintain technical documentation and AI governance controls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science or a related discipline; minimum 4+ years of software engineering experience and minimum 2+ years developing AI-powered applications or generative AI solutions.
- Exposure to frontend and backend development, SQL databases, prompt engineering, LLMs, agents, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, model evaluation, cloud and DevOps tools. Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills, with attention to responsible AI, scalability and business outcomes.
- Experience in life insurance, financial services or another regulated industry is highly preferred.
Within the first six months, the engineer is expected to deliver production-ready applications and real-time agents, establish reusable prompt frameworks, and improve AI governance and monitoring. Compensation is USD 100,000–120,000 yearly, with equity options, health, dental and vision benefits, 401(k) matching, PTO and provided work-from-home equipment.
