About this role
MACOM seeks an AI/ML Development Principal Engineer to design, develop and deploy scalable AI agents and agentic solutions across the company. The role works with subject matter experts to address bottlenecks and improve productivity in semiconductor fabrication, RF and mixed-signal circuit design, manufacturing operations, and front- and back-office functions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain agents and agentic workflows for business, development and operational challenges. Build solutions that use reasoning, planning and execution, with flexible architectures that can be adapted across teams.
- Assess models for speed, accuracy and cost according to the problem. Collaborate across functions to identify opportunities and resolve issues involving data quality, formats, pipelines, verification and workflows.
- Mentor engineers and non-technical staff and promote best practices in AI, agentic systems and generative AI development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science or a related technical field.
- 7 to 12 years of hands-on AI engineering experience, including recent demonstrated expertise in agentic AI, generative AI, agent orchestration and workflows, plus a record of deployed solutions.
- Expert Python programming and AI development-stack skills focused on agents; expertise building agentic systems and using orchestration frameworks. Working knowledge of model providers and ecosystems such as OpenAI, Anthropic and AWS Bedrock, and understanding of AI workload scalability, cost and performance optimization.
- Strong collaboration and communication across software, hardware and semiconductor engineering, operations and business teams. Experience deploying solutions in traditional engineering and manufacturing environments is a plus.
The position is onsite in Lowell, MA, Durham, NC or Morgan Hill, CA. Due to ITAR regulations, only U.S. Persons as defined in the posting will be considered. The salary range is $84,000–$166,000, with actual pay dependent on factors including location and qualifications.
