AI Engineer

MassMutual’s AI & Data Science team seeks an AI Engineer to independently design, develop and deliver production AI solutions for enterprise business problems in the life insurance industry. The full-time role is hybrid, with three days per week in an office in Springfield or Boston, Massachusetts. The stated salary range is $141,300–$185,400.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end AI/ML initiatives from problem scoping through deployment, applying LLMs, deep learning, agentic AI and probabilistic modeling to defined business use cases.
• Work with stakeholders to establish success metrics and evaluation criteria. Conduct experiments, compare models and analyze performance to guide technical decisions.
• Prototype approaches and turn validated solutions into production-grade applications, such as intelligent interfaces, dashboards and automated pipelines. Apply responsible AI and production-engineering practices; contribute to reusable frameworks and team standards.
• Explain findings to technical and non-technical audiences, document work, share knowledge and provide peer feedback.

Minimum qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience in data science, machine learning or AI engineering, including independently delivering AI/ML solutions at scale; the posting also specifies 4+ years across machine learning, statistics, NLP, LLMs, generative and agentic AI, prompt engineering, LLM evaluation, production AI deployment and Python.
• Experience with model integration, API development and cloud infrastructure; ability to write clean, tested, production-quality Python.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related quantitative field.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with agentic tooling such as Bedrock AgentCore, AWS Strands, Azure and MCP/A2A protocols; breadth in classical ML, causal inference, optimization and Bayesian methods.
• SQL and database-design proficiency, plus familiarity with cloud-native data platforms, vector databases and semantic search.
• A master’s degree or equivalent depth through research, applied projects or work; candidates with a master’s may be considered with fewer professional years. Published research, significant open-source contributions or demonstrated scientific rigor, and strong communication skills are also valued.
