About this role
MITRE’s Geospatial Intelligence Department seeks an AI Engineer to support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Mapping, Charting and Geodesy Program Management Office. The role focuses on a portfolio roadmap for AI, machine learning and automation modernization across Foundation GEOINT production systems, from data ingest through customer dissemination. The position is full-time and on-site at one of the listed locations, requiring at least five days on-site each week.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and engineer data, develop algorithms, and support prototyping and experimentation for sponsor challenges and mission priorities.
- Describe and promote AI/ML solutions, drawing on knowledge of algorithms, tools and software applications. Apply modern development practices to automate development, testing and deployment in secure environments.
- Work independently and with multidisciplinary engineers and subject matter experts; interact frequently with sponsors and translate unclear requirements into technical specifications and systems.
Required qualifications
- Typically at least five years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- U.S. citizenship and active Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph. The posting also states that the hired candidate must have or obtain this clearance within one year of hire.
- Experience in full-stack web development using JavaScript/React, Python/Django or similar frameworks; testing, CI/CD, environment setup, version control and maintainable project structure.
- Familiarity with AI integration and model development using PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn for training and inference, and with AWS, Azure or GovCloud. Ability to understand how LLMs can be enhanced with additional data. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred qualifications include production data or AI/ML pipeline development; knowledge of GEOINT products, analytics, services, satellite systems and processing, exploitation and dissemination systems; knowledge of NGA missions; familiarity with MLOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD workflows and containerization; and the ability to build trusted mission-partner relationships. Working knowledge of Geospatial Intelligence is preferable but not required. The posted annual salary range is $143,600–$215,400, with a $179,500 midpoint.
