About this role
The Lead AI Opportunity Development role sits in BJ’s centralized AI Strategy & Enablement function and reports to the Director of AI Strategy & Governance. It connects business leaders with product, data, and AI/ML engineering teams to turn operational opportunities into prioritized AI initiatives with measurable business value. The function does not directly build or operate solutions, and this role has no direct delivery authority over engineering or product teams.
Responsibilities
- Partner with AI Champions across merchandising, supply chain, club operations, digital experience, and corporate functions to identify opportunities affecting growth, margins, operational precision, and member experience.
- Facilitate discovery sessions to define business problems and hypotheses, assess data readiness and feasibility, connect related initiatives, and determine when AI is preferable to traditional analytics or process improvement. Apply practical knowledge of machine learning, generative AI, and agentic workflows, while staying current on emerging capabilities.
- Develop and prioritize business cases covering expected value, feasibility, implementation effort, and operational readiness. Work with business and finance partners to estimate revenue, margin, productivity, or cost impacts; define success metrics and track value realization for enterprise reporting.
- Help business and technology teams structure proofs of concept and pilots with clear objectives, evaluation frameworks, and success criteria. Capture results and lessons to guide scaling decisions while leaving technical design and delivery ownership with product and engineering teams.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree and 6–9 years of experience in strategy, analytics, product management, management consulting, digital transformation, or leading AI/ML-enabled products or programs in a business environment. Candidates must be able to evaluate AI suitability and data foundations, collaborate with data science, product, and engineering teams, develop business cases and ROI assessments, and build stakeholder alignment without direct authority. Curiosity and continuous learning about AI are expected.
The pay range is $146,250 – $181,500. This hybrid role is in-office Tuesday through Thursday at BJ’s Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA, and remote Monday and Friday. Benefits described include weekly pay, memberships, paid time off, health coverage options, a 401(k) match, and an employee stock purchase plan; eligibility varies by position.
