About this role
Bechtel’s Junior AI Specialist helps develop practical AI solutions for engineering, procurement, construction, and business workflows. Working with AI specialists, data engineers, project teams, and business stakeholders, the specialist contributes across the AI lifecycle, from identifying customer needs and prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and improvement. Assignments may involve generative AI, agents, enterprise search, retrieval-augmented generation, document intelligence, workflow automation, and analysis of text, images, engineering drawings, and technical information. Structured onboarding and mentoring are provided.
Responsibilities
- Build AI-enabled applications, Microsoft Cowork skills, Copilot agents, prototypes, and automation using Python and Azure-based technologies. Develop prompts, agent instructions, tools, retrieval strategies, and structured outputs, integrating solutions with enterprise data, APIs, applications, and workflow platforms.
- Gather requirements, scope use cases, assess feasibility, and translate business problems into technical requirements and measurable outcomes. Prepare structured and unstructured data, including documents, spreadsheets, images, drawings, and technical models.
- Create test datasets and evaluate accuracy, relevance, safety, reliability, user value, and failure modes. Use Databricks and Microsoft Fabric to support AI and analytics applications, models, workflows, data pipelines, and curated datasets. Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, source control, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, AI, machine learning, data science, software engineering, information systems, mathematics, engineering, or a related technical discipline with 1–2 years of experience, or 5–6 years of relevant work experience. US citizenship is required.
- Python proficiency, demonstrated through work, coursework, internships, research, hackathons, open-source contributions, or personal projects; foundational understanding of AI or generative AI models, machine learning, LLMs, or NLP; and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and learn unfamiliar domains.
Preferred
AI, machine learning, or software engineering project experience; familiarity with Azure AI services, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, or Cowork; experience with RAG, agents, document processing, or multimodal AI; and knowledge of prompting, tool calling, embeddings, semantic search, agent orchestration, generative AI evaluation, and responsible AI principles.
Work arrangement: Houston office attendance is required three days a week, with part-time telework. The posting specifies 40 hours per week and no authorized relocation.
