Principal AI Developer, VP

State Street’s Charles River Development seeks a Principal AI Developer, VP to build production-grade AI capabilities for the Charles River Investment Management Solution and State Street Alpha Platform. The role focuses on copilots, agentic workflows and automation embedded in front-, middle- and back-office investment management processes, serving both client-facing and internal workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and scale LLM-based services, conversational interfaces and agent workflows using orchestration frameworks and tool-calling patterns. Build RAG pipelines over enterprise data and integrate multi-agent systems using MCP servers, APIs and A2A tooling.
• Develop reusable AI platforms, SDKs and shared services for product teams. Integrate with cloud platforms and enterprise systems, exposing capabilities through API management and event-driven architectures.
• Ensure production performance, scalability and reliability; implement model and pipeline monitoring, evaluation and observability. Apply security, explainability, compliance and AI governance practices.
• Work with product owners, architects, data science, UX and domain teams; participate in sprint planning, code reviews and retrospectives.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field; 5-8+ years of software engineering experience focused on scalable systems, including experience delivering AI/ML applications to production.
• Strong LLM, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings and vector database expertise; familiarity with agent orchestration and MCP. Proficiency in Python and at least one of Java, C# or TypeScript. Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP also noted), APIs, microservices and event streaming such as Kafka or Event Hub. Knowledge of distributed caching, performance optimization, testing, CI/CD, design patterns, model risk management and security best practices. Strong cross-functional communication is valued.
• Preferred: investment management, trading systems or financial data platform experience; AI agent frameworks, MCP servers or advanced orchestration; and Agile/Scrum delivery with secure coding practices.

The Burlington, Massachusetts position is full-time. The stated annual salary range for the primary location is $120,000-$202,500; a different work location may have a different range.
