About this role
Wayfair’s Visual AI Technology team builds generative visual experiences for home visualization. This engineer will develop and maintain the systems, APIs, ML infrastructure, frameworks and self-service environments behind automated content pipelines used by digital artists and creative teams.
Responsibilities
- Make technical decisions across components of the team’s existing systems, prioritize assigned work independently, solve scoped but ambiguous problems, and identify improvements that benefit multiple components.
- Coordinate deliverables with product, experience design and analytics colleagues, with measurable impact on the team’s systems and business outcomes.
- Design resilient, scalable microservices that connect external APIs and internal models. Containerize applications with Docker and manage Kubernetes services, pods, ConfigMaps and secrets. Use AI-powered developer tools such as Cursor, Copilot or Google AI Suite to improve coding efficiency.
Required qualifications
- Understanding of supervised and unsupervised learning, model evaluation, and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or Scikit-learn; familiarity with fine-tuning or serving large models, including LLMs and diffusion models, and working with ML-service APIs such as OpenAI, RunwayML, Hugging Face or Fal.ai.
- Strong Python skills and understanding of GCP, AWS or Azure for compute-heavy workloads. Experience consuming and exposing REST or GraphQL APIs and using OAuth, API keys or JWT; familiarity with unit and integration testing, CI/CD and production observability.
- Understanding of ML data preprocessing, structured and unstructured data, and storage solutions such as GCS, PostgreSQL, BigQuery or MongoDB. Proficiency with React, interactive UIs and frontend state management. FastAPI or Flask experience is a bonus.
Preferred qualifications include model optimization or quantization, MLflow or Weights & Biases, Terraform, Helm or ArgoCD, GPU workloads and Kubernetes scheduling, 3D content pipelines, and secure frontend integration for ML-powered tools.
