Google DeepMind seeks a Research Engineer for its full-stack GenAI modeling team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The role focuses on evaluating and improving models for information tasks, with solutions designed for efficiency at Google scale and adaptability to standalone and multi-agent systems.
Responsibilities
- Build rigorous evaluations across workloads to measure model performance, identify improvement directions, and drive continuous model-quality improvements.
- Develop modular solutions that integrate across Google product areas, including approaches such as routing.
- Work with engineering, product management, and data science partners to turn product requirements and feedback into model improvements. Research-focused engineers also create experiments and prototypes, explore architectures, and may collaborate with universities and publish research.
Minimum qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience; 3 years of software development experience in Python or C++; and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX, model evaluations, and improving model performance.
Preferred qualifications
A master’s or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field; 2 years of experience designing benchmark suites and advancing model quality; experience with LLM orchestration, routing, or multi-agent workflows; and strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills.
Compensation: The stated US pay range is $174,000–$252,000, plus a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
